Hackney Mosaic Project
The delightful Hackney Mosaic Project lives here
Location: 105 Shepherdess Walk, Islington
Description: Find the descending alley between the houses here and enter a courtyard entrance to the lovely Shepherdess Walk Park.
Long ago there was 2 huge bathhouses here (dating from 1842) - some of the largest indoor bathhouses in London.
Later, between the wars, they were converted into factories and then in the 1980's converted into the park we see largely today.
The mosaics were the work of local artist Tessa Hunkin and her team of volunteers, which started as a project funded by Hackney Council in 2012, the year of the London Olympics.
Inspired by Roman mosaics see if you can spot modern objects such as a frisbee, Ipod and leaf blower!
